  Lining Conversion

As the lining of any camper conversion is the first element it is very important to get this right. SLC offer a lining package to provide self converters the perfect base to start from or to make any van a warmer, quieter, more pleasant place to be.

Lining package

Our lining package has been carefully developed to give the best quality and durability for the inside of any van. As the lining is the base to any camper conversion it needs to last, the materials used have been chosen to ensure they stand up to the tests of time.
The lining package is a lengthy and labour intensive task taking many hours to complete to a high standard. Here is a brief overview of the process.

Firstly we strip out the van, including front seats and "B post" trims, if the van has a bulkhead, this is also removed along with the fixing brackets. The rear of the van is also stripped of any ply lining already fitted, this is disposed of. Any holes from previous fittings and/or bulkhead fixings are now treated to an anti rust primer to prevent future issues.
The inside is now cleaned and degreased ready for the glue to be applied, after masking off has taken place.
Next the metalwork is keyed in preparation for the glue.

Each side is lined in one continuous piece of material giving an even finish and ensuring the nap lies in the correct direction.
The thermal insulation is applied next. The boards for the sides are cut in a way that emphasises the shape of the van, these are made from hardwood ply. The boards are covered in the chosen lining material and affixed to the van using hidden fixings, this allows them to be removed if required.

The roof is lined with the same material as the sides, or customers can choose to upgrade to a faux suede, leather or vinyl roof covering. Again the roof-boards are fixed in with hidden fixings. Most customers also opt to take advantage of removing the OEM lights and replacing them with LED down-lights which have a switch to operate them as per the original courtesy lights.

The floor is cut from 12mm hardwood exterior grade ply and fitting in the van using packing strips below and bonded with Sika, this negates the need for screws thus no unnecessary holes are introduced into the vehicle. The floor boarding is then covered with a choice of gel backed automotive flooring carpet or Altro vinyl.
Once the floor is in place the new step is fitted to the side door which is deeper and has a courtesy light, the rear threshold is also replaced with a full width version.
